HARRY CARL BARMEIER, 58
TAVERNIER, FLA.- Harry Carl Barmeier, 58, died at home on June 26, 2012 on Key Largo in Tav ernier, Florida. He was born Dec. 22, 1953, in
Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the
late Harry and Carlyn Barmeier. Harry was a 1972 graduate of Boardman High School and later attended Vale Technical Institute in Blairsville, Pa. to study auto mechanics. Harry loved cars as a young man, and later used that skill to pursue his dreams.

In the mid 1970s, Harry moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and was employed at Bertram Yacht Sales maintaining a fleet of yachts and sport fishing vessels before he followed his true passion and moved to the Florida Keys to be come a sport fishing guide. For many years Captain Harry Barmeier ran his own boat called the Katy-Did, named after the first of his many beloved yellow Labra dor Retrievers named Katy.

Over the years, there were many boats, always named Katy Did, and many dogs named Katy. Harry designed the boats' logo to celebrate his dogs: a yellow lab with a fish in its grinning mouth. He feasted on fresh fish daily and set his own crab and lobster traps in the waters surrounding his adopted home.

He was a well-known character on the local scene and clients knew a day spent on the water with Harry would be memorable. Harry fished the Keys for many years.
A devoted fan of the TV show "MASH," even long after it left the networks, Harry had a great sense humor
He became known in the Keys community as a truly kind old soul. He would lend a helping hand to anyone. He had a wide circle of friends, several of whom were with him in his last hours.

Harry is survived by his son, Harrison McLean of Bayboro, N.C.; his two sisters, Dr. Amy Dru of Phoenix, Ariz., and Judy Ferguson and husband Jay of San Rafael, Calif.; his aunt, Patricia (Peppy) Theodore and husband Bill of Can field, Ohio; and his uncle, Jack Schmidt and wife Gail of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; as well as nephews, Christo Dru, Alex Dru, and Jack Ferguson and niece, Lizzie
